Being a fulltime career woman with a pretty busy schedule, I always try to lead a healthy lifestyle. Nothing special, mind you, just routine daily exercise, plenty of stretching when I’m at work, and of course eating healthy. Well, that last one is a bit hard to maintain since I’m such a sucker for street food… :)

Every once in a while, usually during my lunch break or when I’m on my way home, I’d visit one of favorite sidewalk food vendors to get a greasy bag of gorengan, a portion of lumpia basah (I got introduced to this bundle of goodness when I was in Bandung; but it’s rather hard to find in Jakarta), some fried donuts with powdered sugar, or a plate of batagor.

I know these aren’t exactly good for me, but straying a bit from my usual healthy diet now and then feels good. After being cooped up in an air-conditioned office for hours on end, the sights, sounds, and aromas of street food feels quite refreshing. And then there’s the taste of course—usually crunchy, sometimes soggy, but almost always good.

Sometimes the good things in life are those most often overlooked, or those that you shouldn’t indulge in too often, no? :)
