Flight of fancy…

comment(s)

They say that the journey is more important than the destination. I agree. So, I guess that once in a while, the journey should be more comfortable than the destination, right? And that’s why I have “fly business class to a holiday destination” on my wish list. No, not first-class, what with more and more airlines focusing on business class and quite often ditching first class seating altogether. Also, it needs to be a long flight; otherwise it’d be a bit of a waste…

Anyway, what can you expect from a long-haul business flight nowadays? Well, especially if you’re flying with an international airline, the perks may include:

Peace and quiet, plus comfort: Spacious seats that can extend to flat beds and fewer passengers would be the first things you’ll notice. Also, not having to move out of the way when your neighbors need to go to the toilet is a huge plus.

Great food: Airline food is almost universally loathed (quick fact: it’s not the quality of food, but the air pressure and dry cabin air affects your sense of taste), but on the so-called premium classes, the food is more than just great. Also, plenty of snacks and desserts to go around.

Great service: The stewardess-to-passenger ratio is naturally higher in business class, so it’s basically like having a butler for the duration of the flight.

Extra accessories: Of course this will vary greatly from airline to airline; but don’t be too surprised when the flight crew offers you earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones, comfy socks, lip balm, and hand crème.

Extra entertainment: The video screen on a business-class seat is usually larger, and so is the selection of movies and music. There’s usually also more than enough space for you to use your laptop. Finally, more and more airlines are replacing their onboard entertainment systems (which are actually quite bulky) with iPads.

So, yeah, I’m definitely flying business-class on a long-haul flight. Definitely. Well… someday…

Oh, and by the way, if you have money to burn, there are quite a few exquisite first-class services that make even the best business-class seats look like angkots. For a peek of what they entail, click here...
