So, far I’ve written about exercise on two different occasions. Well, it is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, and considering how many people consider it serious business, there’s never a shortage of experts and references on proper exercise. And that’s exactly why I often like to dig around for non-mainstream, quirky, lesser known, and fun exercise tips.
You know, things like how chocolate helps you exercise… Of course there’s plenty more:
First of all: I wasn’t kidding about chocolate being good for exercise, although only dark chocolate works. The theory is that flavonol epicatechin, a key ingredient in dark chocolate, enhances endurance.
Listening to music while working out makes you feel more energetic—since it skews our perception of effort and fatigue. So, basically music makes you forget that you’re tired and you’ll be less likely to quit early… ^^
Aerobic exercise is important, but don’t skimp on resistance training. Interestingly, one of the major backers of this theory is NASA, based on their experience with planning exercise regimens for astronauts on long duration space missions… o.O
Now, this one might be a bit controversial, but some studies suggest that stretching before running is not helpful, and will actually cause you to burn fewer calories.
So, I’ll be conducting my own ‘study’ of whether a bite of chocolate (yes, yes, dark chocolate) can be a replacement for the pre-run stretch… ^^
