Face, meet Mask…

comment(s)

One of my friends, who has managed to never look like she’s a day over 30 (she’s actually pushing 40, by the way), regularly buys a pack of branded facial masks. And I have to admit that I’m intrigued—especially after looking at the packaging and several brochures. But I’m not exactly convinced yet…

Personally, I still prefer all-natural, DIY facial masks I can whip up at home. Why? Well, freshness is one big factor for me. For example, green tea extract is a popular ingredient for skincare products, right? But steeping whole tea leaves is easy, guaranteed fresher, and also quite a bit cheaper. That last bit is also important since I kind of like to experiment with various recipes I find in magazines or the Internet. And speaking of experimenting, here are some of my most successful trials…

Bananas: One banana, plus a quarter cup of yogurt (plain, of course), and a bit of honey. It felt (and smelt) great!

Milk: You take a quarter cup of powdered milk, add a bit of water (just enough so that you can make a thick paste), and then apply it to your face. It will eventually dry out, but after your rinse it off, your face will feel really, really fresh…

Yogurt: This one is as simple as it gets—just some plain yogurt slathered over your face. Or, if you like, you can add the juice and a bit of pulp from a quarter of an orange. I think I’ll be trying this one out soon…

Oatmeal: For something a bit more challenging, combine half a cup of hot water and half a cup of oatmeal, then let it settle for a couple of minutes. Next, mix in 2 tablespoons of yogurt (again, plain), 2 tablespoons of honey, and one egg white. Apply the mixture to your face, and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

Mustard: Mild yellow mustard can be very soothing for your skin. However, you might want to test it first on a small area since mustard can cause skin irritation on some people. Luckily, I’m not one of those… ^^
