Picking out the perfect gift for somebody special is not always easy… which is exactly why thank-you notes are so important. If somebody has gone out of her way to make you feel special through a special gift, it’s only right that you take the time to make the giver feel good, right?
Properly thanking the giver is of course important… but a follow-up thank-you note—now that can really add a nice touch… ^^
An actual thank-you card would, of course, be even nicer, but a simple note will do just fine… or at least an e-mail. When would be the best time to write a thank-you note? As soon as possible.
As for the contents of the note, don’t start it off directly with “Thank you for…” Something along the lines of, say, “Hey, it was great seeing you at yesterday’s party” will make your note feel a bit more friendly and warm. Most importantly, though: mention the specific gift, or if it’s money, then tell the giver how you will spend it. While, “and thanks for the lovely gift” is nice and all, “and thank you so much for that Barry Manilow CD… how on Earth did you know I’ve always wanted this?” or “and thank you so much for the iTunes gift card… I can finally get that Barry Manilow album I’ve always wanted” feels a lot more personal, right?
So, remember: gift giving is an opportunity to be kind… and so is the receiving part… ^^
