If you live in an area with lots of hotels like I do, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and other holidays are usually punctuated by fireworks. Lots of them. On top of that, with big fireworks and firecrackers being increasingly easy to obtain, a lot of people have joined in on the fun with their own pyrotechnic displays—be it for special events or just for fun.

But for me, at least it’s getting more and more annoying…

In my childhood memories (so, basically around the ‘80s and early ‘90s) fireworks were something special. You’d see it on TV during the opening and closing of the Olympics, or perhaps in the night sky over one or two large hotels during New Year’s Eve. Nowadays, you can even see roadside stalls selling everything from sparklers to huge bottle rockets…

Well, that’s market economy for you, and it’s not as if I hate them now… but it’s just that there’s that special feeling that comes from watching incredible firework displays that’s now gone. More often than not, seeing—and hearing—fireworks in the distance turn out to be a bit annoying.

Yes, I miss the good old days…

Anyway, to end this post on an upbeat note, here are some modern-day fireworks I particularly like… ^^
