Sneakers are extremely comfortable, especially for those times when you’re going to be on your feet and on the move. Well, that’s what they’re designed for. But on the other hand, sneakers aren’t exactly what most people would consider stylish—except if you’re going to the gym, running a marathon, or if you’re a teenager.
So, how do you go about incorporating a pair of comfy sneakers into something that looks a little bit more classy and mature?
Well, the first and easiest look you can go for is the classic sneakers-plus-jeans. For the best results, pick a contrasting top like a loose sweater/cardigan, or a button-down shirt. Yes, that last one might sound unusual but it works.
The second and more highly recommended route is sneakers plus a dress. In keeping with the more mature theme, your best bet is picking among the longer type of dresses... midi dresses, in particular, are perfect for pairing with a couple of sneakers.
Besides length, you should also go for a simple, streamlined, and feminine silhouette. So, avoid anything extra poufy. On the other hand, a couple of masculine touches might also work for you. This is where you can combine both looks: layer a classy shirt—say, a vintage-styled Oxford shirt—under your dress for that perfect blend of classy and casual.
And last but not least: the sneakers themselves. Remember that the objective here is to look great, not to go running (of course you can look great while exercising, but that’s a whole different set of tips). So, your best bet—to complement your looks and for maximum comfort—would be a pair of light colored canvas sneakers. At the very least, these would be easy to pair with most outfits...
So, happy experimenting...
