The perfect scent…

comment(s)

I don’t often wear perfume… in fact I almost never use perfume. Why? I’m not sure… maybe I just never felt the need to do so. But then, there are also quite a lot of people who tend to wear too much perfume. I’m sure most of us have had our fair share of crossing paths with ladies (and the occasional gentleman) with a scent that is simply overpowering, right? Well, fortunately, avoiding too much perfume is a simple matter…

Chocolate and coffee: two things I really like. Chocolate is great no matter what form it takes (chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, hot chocolate with whipped cream and cinnamon, chocolate sprinkles on toast, and many, many more) and coffee (whether it’s ice-blended or black in a mug) is my eternal friend against sleepless nights spent chasing deadlines.

Oh, and both are also great for your skin…

Chocolaty pimples…

comment(s)

Okay, so, on my previous post, I mentioned about the connection between chocolate and pimples. Some say this is just an old wives tale, others claim that this is scientific fact. So, are there any hard facts about chocolate vs. pimples? Why, of course there are…

Only, it’s the “yes and no” kind of answer…

Green tea… this is, like, the number one all natural health drink, right? Well, not if you’re like me and you tend to get your daily dose of green tea in the form of green tea lattes with as much sugar as a can of soda… ^^

But anyway, green tea is almost universally considered beneficial for both health and beauty. So, the question is: what else can green tea do aside from providing seemingly healthy options at your favorite coffee shop?

The pimple menace…

comment(s)

No matter if you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or even 50s, we can get acne just as easy as any teenager. So, naturally, there are dozens (or hundreds) of lotions and medicines available to treat pimples. But there are also plenty of natural remedies using simple, everyday items you can probably find at home. So, let’s check out some of the most popular options at our disposal…

comment(s)

Go to any supermarket or department store, and then look for the skincare products section. It’s basically guaranteed that you’ll find more than one lotion, body scrub, soap, shampoo, etc. with honey as a major ingredient. Basically, we’ve known for centuries that honey is healthy when consumed and also very good for your skin.

Also, it’s very easy to make your own honey-based skincare solutions. For example:

comment(s)

When you’re out of town on assignment or if you’re vacationing to somewhere remote where the nearest department store is several hours away, suddenly finding yourself short of face scrub, shampoo, and so on is not exactly fun. But fret not, because there are plenty beauty tips that substitute commercial products with everyday items you can easily find. Oh, and by the way, some of these might work out for guys as well… ^^

Face, meet Mask…

comment(s)

One of my friends, who has managed to never look like she’s a day over 30 (she’s actually pushing 40, by the way), regularly buys a pack of branded facial masks. And I have to admit that I’m intrigued—especially after looking at the packaging and several brochures. But I’m not exactly convinced yet…

Personally, I still prefer all-natural, DIY facial masks I can whip up at home. Why? Well, freshness is one big factor for me. For example, green tea extract is a popular ingredient for skincare products, right? But steeping whole tea leaves is easy, guaranteed fresher, and also quite a bit cheaper. That last bit is also important since I kind of like to experiment with various recipes I find in magazines or the Internet. And speaking of experimenting, here are some of my most successful trials…

comment(s)

Imagine you’ve run out of shampoo. Do you run to the nearest store? Or do you take the opportunity to experiment with natural substitutes that are free from potentially harmful chemicals? Well, we’ll probably take option No.1 in most cases; but there are actually plenty of natural ingredients that can keep your hair clean and shiny…

It is said that bathing in milk and honey will give you fair, smooth, and silky skin. I don’t know if that’s true or not; I do, however, know that soaking yourself in a bathtub full of milk (with or without honey) is going to be messy. Thankfully, we’re in the 21st century now, so we can get all the benefits of a milk bath packaged in a small jar. Yes, I’m talking about whitening creams.

Naturally, the use of skin whitening creams with a big “but”… ^^;

For those of us with extra sensitive skin, picking out makeup or skincare products can be quite the challenge. I mean, skin rashes and other allergic reactions are not exactly fun; especially if it’s because of something as innocuous as body lotion. Thankfully, you can easily find something that won’t require you to keep anti-histamine tablets ready by looking for a friendly ‘hypoallergenic’ tag… right?

Need to lose a kilo or two fast? Well, there are plenty of diet tips, exercise programs, and of course we also have the ever popular quick-acting weight loss solution: tea. But of course we’re not talking about your average cup of black tea… See, there are plenty of more exotic blends that can really help you slim down. There’s oolong tea, for example, that reportedly boosts your metabolism and helps you burn more calories; porangaba tea that suppresses your appetite; Feiyan tea that reduces cholesterol; and so on.

Why are diamonds expensive? Well, mainly because they’re super rare. Not only that, only a small fraction of diamonds are fit for jewelry; the rest are used for various industrial applications. Of those, an even smaller percentage makes their way to top-tier jewelers.

So, how are diamonds evaluated and graded? More importantly, how can you be sure that you’re getting your money’s worth? Well, ladies, let me introduce you to the 4Cs:

For quite a lot of people, mornings are a hectic period where quite a lot of things need to be done in a (very) short stretch of time: Getting breakfast ready (for you and maybe also your family), making sure that you have everything you need for work, (at least) a bit of cleaning around the house, etc., etc… and all that before you rush out the door and into traffic.

Oh, and let’s not forget getting your hair ready, fixing your makeup, and so on when there’s only minutes to spare. So, how can you make your daily beauty routine easier and faster?

comment(s)

Have you ever watched or seen a commercial for high-end beauty products? One thing that’s seemingly always highlighted is some sort of extra-special ingredient… maybe a new compound discovered by the brand’s hi-tech laboratory, or perhaps the extract of a rare plant or mineral. Definitely not common, but not exactly unusual…

But apparently, there are several products using special ingredients that are not uncommon, but highly unusual…

Early mornings are, for quite a lot of people, one of the hardest parts of a typical working day. However, what we do during that short period of time determines how we’ll perform—and also how we look!—for the rest of the day.

So, with that in mind, here are some morning habits that you really, really should stop…

Hopefully you’re not sick of “spring this” and “spring that” yet… because, hey, spring is the season of new things, of creating new things. And even here, where we only have the dry and rainy seasons, we can still tap into that spirit of creation and reinvention to create ‘a new you’. Who knows… you might like what you find… ;)

But, uh, what kind of new paths should we look at?

Detox the Right Way

Nowadays, it would seem that you can find dozens of ‘detox’ products just looking at the aisle with bottled juice at the nearest supermarket. And on the magazine rack, you might even glimpse ads for detox programs at some sort of spa facility.

Well, a lot of experts say that the exact amount of water you need depends on your activity level, what kind of food you eat, other sources of water (e.g., fruit), and so on. Still, a lot of people don’t realize just how bad it can get when you don’t get enough water (especially when you’re fasting... so make sure you drink enough water during the pre-dawn meal for the whole day). Some feel it’s inconvenient, and some even feel the need to avoid frequent trips to the bathroom.

Anyway, below you’ll see a list of what your water intake can do to your body (including how you look and how you feel...)

Safe Under the Sun

Standing under the warm rays of the sun can be a truly relaxing experience, such as on a sunny morning after a long, cold night... or when you finally arrive at the beach for a short holiday. It’s also incredibly healthy: exposure to the sun plays a big role in optimizing hormonal functions and in producing vitamin D.

Of course, the sun can also be rather harsh on us, and especially our skin. So, there needs to be a balance between enjoying the sun’s warmth, and protecting yourself from the sun’s glare. How do you do that? Read on, ladies...

And this actually makes sense (well, to a certain extent), since hormone levels and other physical traits can affect the growth and shape one’s eyebrows.
